Are you planning to climb Mt. Fuji? 
It's a very famous and beautiful mountain in Japan.
Many people want to climb it.
But, please be careful! Mt. Fuji can be dangerous.
Many foreign visitors go to Mt. Fuji with light clothes.
This is not safe.
We want you to be safe and happy. 
Please read this before you go.


Why is Mt. Fuji dangerous if you wear light clothes?

You might think, "It's summer, so it's warm, right?"
No! Mt. Fuji is very high – 3,776 meters.
The weather is very different from flat land.

  • Cold Weather:
    Even in August, the top of Mt. Fuji is about 5 degrees Celsius.
    It can get colder, even below zero.
    If it's hot in your city, it can be like winter on Mt. Fuji!

  • Strong Wind:
    There is strong wind on Mt. Fuji.
    It makes you feel very cold.
    The wind can also push you.

  • Sudden Rain:
    The weather can change fast.
    It can be sunny, then suddenly rain a lot.
    Rain makes you very cold. This is dangerous.
    Lightning can also happen.

  • Fog:
    Sometimes, there is thick fog.
    You cannot see well.
    You can get lost easily.

What is High Altitude Sickness?

When you go high up, the air has less oxygen.
On Mt. Fuji, there is less air to breathe.

  • Feelings:
    You might get a headache, feel sick, feel dizzy, or feel very tired.
    This is called high altitude sickness.

  • Be Careful:
    If you just came to Japan, you might get this easily.
